How We Pick Our Japandi Furniture

Big home stores sell millions of products. Very few of them are truly Japandi. This page explains, step by step, how we decide what goes on Japandistore.

1. It has to pass our Japandi checklist

A piece needs at least 4 of these 6 points:

Point What we look for What we leave out
Colors Beige, cream, off-white, stone grey, warm brown, matte black, muted olive, soft terracotta Bright colors, shiny gold, chrome
Materials Oak, ash, walnut, rattan, jute, linen, cotton, wool, stone, ceramic, rice paper Shiny plastic, mirrored glass, colored velvet, lots of shiny metal
Shapes Clean straight lines or soft organic curves Heavy carving, turned classic legs, tufting
Height Low pieces: low-back sofas, platform beds, low tables Very tall, bulky furniture
Pattern Plain, soft stripes, quiet checks, natural texture Big prints, florals, loud geometric patterns
Feeling Natural, handmade, calm Glam, hard industrial, farmhouse, party style

A simple test we use: picture the piece in a room with light wood floors and cream walls. If it "shouts", it doesn't go on the site.

2. Real buyers have to like it

We prefer pieces rated 4 stars or more by buyers on the store's own website. Some newer pieces have only a few reviews; we add those only when the design is a very clear Japandi fit.

3. Official photos, shown in a real room

We only use the store's official photos, in the same order the store shows them. Where we can, the first photo shows the whole piece inside a real room, so you can judge its size and style.

4. Prices and stock are checked every week

Every week we compare our prices with the store's prices and fix any change. When a piece is sold out or no longer sold, we take it off the site. Prices can still change between our checks, so the price on the store's website is always the final one.

5. What we don't do

  • We don't test products in person. We judge each piece by its materials, measurements, official photos and buyer reviews.
  • A commission never puts a product on the site by itself. Every piece has to pass the checklist above first. We do earn commissions when you buy through our links; see our Affiliate disclosure.
  • We don't handle orders. Delivery times, shipping costs and returns depend on each store. Check them on the store's page before you buy.

See something that doesn't meet these rules? Tell us on our contact page and we'll review it.
